Mike Mann is a seasoned entrepreneur and philanthropist with a proven track record of success in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. He is the founder and manager of Make Change! Trust, a charitable fund dedicated to supporting select 501(c)(3) organizations.
Prior to this, Mike served as the founder and chairman of Grassroots.org, a global 501(c)(3) network that provided free services to non-profit organizations and promoted social action. His entrepreneurial ventures extend beyond the non-profit realm, as he is the founder of several successful for-profit corporations. Three of these companies, Phone.com, DomainMarket.com, and SEO.com (now sold), were recognized as among the 2012 Inc. 500 fastest-growing small companies in America. Additionally, he founded and operates AccurateAppraisals.com. These companies deliver innovative and profitable digital products and services to broad diverse markets.
Mike is also the author of "Make Millions and Make Change!", a book focused on generating wealth through small business while simultaneously making a positive impact on society. His early career includes founding Internet Interstate, which he sold to Verio Inc. in 1997, subsequently becoming President of VerioDC. After his departure, Verio went public and was eventually acquired by NTT of Japan in a multi-billion dollar transaction. Notably, Mike had previously conducted internet training sessions for top NTT executives visiting the US.
In 1998, Mike founded BuyDomains.com, which became the world's largest secondary market for domain names. He sold a majority stake to Highland Capital and Summit Partners in 2005, along with his "Seeq.com" search engine portal. (BuyDomains.com has been sold twice since.)
Between 1998 and 2001, Mike served as the founding Chairman of the non-profit ByteBack.org, which operates free computer and job training centers in inner-city communities to this day.
In 2007, Mike, with his company WashingtonVC, founded Yield Software, a company specializing in cutting-edge online marketing software. Within two years, a majority stake in Yield was acquired by venture capitalists Draper Fisher and the international marketing conglomerate WPP. In 2011, Yield Software was fully acquired by Autonomy Corporation, an HP company.
Mike was a founder and promoter of the .Co (country of Colombia) domain name space. He still owns some of the most valuable domains within this space, including Bank.co, CreditCards.co, Advertising.co, Movies.co, Office.co, Investing.co, and Health.co. Mike's former .Co partner successfully cashed out for over $100 million.
As an early internet pioneer, Mike has been recognized for his innovative contributions to the industry. He holds a patent for his groundbreaking domain name technology, "WhoisPlus/NameFind", which is used or copied by every major domain name company worldwide. This technology that Mike invented has facilitated the registration of many millions of domain names.
